A Clean, Clever Kettle
Hario knows kettles. It was the creator of the original specialty coffee kettle, the Buono, and has
released kettles as beautiful as its glass, such as the Buono copper kettle, Bona white enamel kettle,
and the wood-handled V60 drip kettle. The Smart G is the newest addition to Hario’s kettle lineup.
Taking inspiration for its components from several of its existing kettles, evidence of which is found
in the easy-pour gooseneck spout of the Buono line and the modern profile of the Kasuya, the Smart G
has a stainless steel body, silicone handle grip, PPT resin knob, and silicone stopper. The “smart” in
the name refers to the fact that it can be used with any heat source (except microwave and oven) and to
its thermometer-friendly design. The lid’s silicone stopper can be removed to make way for a
thermometer, especially when precision temperatures are required; and the handle has two cleverly
placed holes for storing a thermometer when such precision is unnecessary or when the kettle is not
being used. The Smart G comes in black and white and, despite its 1.4L size, has a practical capacity
of 1L.
