Why Is Your Nespresso Blinking Red?
A blinking red light on your Nespresso machine usually indicates one of several common issues. The good news is most of them are easy to fix at home.
1. The Machine Needs Descaling
Symptom: Steady red blinking or alternating red/green.
Over time, mineral deposits build up inside the machine's heating element and water lines. When the machine detects significant scale buildup, it triggers the red light.
Fix: Run the descaling cycle using Nespresso's descaling solution or a citric acid solution. The process takes about 20 minutes.
2. The Water Tank Is Empty or Misaligned
Symptom: Red blink when you try to brew.
Fix: Remove the water tank, fill it, and reseat it firmly. Make sure it clicks into place.
3. The Machine Is Overheating
Symptom: Red light after multiple back-to-back brews.
Fix: Allow the machine to cool for 15-20 minutes before use.
4. A Capsule Is Stuck
Symptom: Red light when trying to close the lever.
Fix: Open the lever, remove any stuck capsule, and check the chamber for debris.
5. Factory Reset
If none of the above works, try a factory reset. The process varies by model—check your user manual or visit the Nespresso support site.
